About White Barn Kennels

About Us

We are Josiah and Emma Cook. We are a small family breeder and trainer located in Liberty, North Carolina. We love our dogs and the German Shorthaired Pointer breed.

Josiah grew up in Louisiana. He has been around dogs his entire life and bred Labs as a teenager. He began a career in law enforcement after graduating college and became a K-9 handler. Inspired by being around and learning from excellent trainers, he began to use his experience to train dogs on the side for others.

Our family fell in love with the German Shorthaired Pointer breed and began upland training and hunting. We now breed two to three litters a year of German Shorthaired Pointers and train upland dogs and obedience to all breeds. Our main focus when training obedience is to provide structure in every area which makes for a happier pup and a happier owner. Our German Shorthaired Pointers are trained daily and are full-time guide dogs during hunting season. We believe all German Shorthaired Pointers need a job, whether that be running with their owner every morning, hunting quail, retrieving ducks, or finding narcotics.

Our focus in breeding is to breed healthy, well balanced, well demeaned, and driven German Shorthaired Pointers. We desire our puppies to be excellent pets as well as excellent hunters and companions for their future owners. We breed our Dams and Sires based on their strengths but also their weaknesses. All of our Dams and Sires are at a minimum OFA cleared for hips, elbows, cardiac, and eyes. DNA through Embark has been obtained for all of our breeding dogs, and they are clear of any OFA recommended breed specific diseases. (Copies of this can be viewed on each dog's profile.)
